Exhibit Recap
The Museum of Camping held its first exhibit on August 7, 2026 at the annual San Carlos Family Campout sponsored by the San Carlos Department of Parks and Recreation. More than 500 campers across three generations attended.
The Museum treated visitors to a sample of its growing collection of antique, vintage, and modern camping gear and stories. Among the most popular items were the 1943 10th Mountain Division two-man tent and an array of 1930s and 1940s scouting equipment. The Museum also put on a demonstration of how to light a 1972 Coleman gas pressure lantern, using a family heirloom from Museum founder Jeff Stanger's late father's collection.
The biggest highlight, however, was the young campers' excitement upon receiving a copy of the original Girl Scouts recipe for the "Some More" dating to 1927.
